October's assembly of falla presidents and chairwomen, held on Tuesday 20 at the Palau de la Música, has fleshed out one of the trickiest coexistence deals on the 2027 calendar: commissions in the Marítimo must have their marquees and lights packed up before 20 March, leaving the seafaring neighbourhood clear for the events of the Semana Santa Marinera.
The Fallas councillor and JCF president, Santiago Ballester, told the commissions that the 2027 fallas ordinance will list this point as a priority for the district. The commitment follows the Junta Mayor de la Semana Santa Marinera giving up its processions on Friday 19 March — when Good Friday, Saint Joseph's Day and the Cremà all fall on the same day — and asking the fallas to clear flags, lighting and marquees from 20 March onwards.
The assembly, back to its regular schedule after the extraordinary plenary of the Telefonada, also saw Ballester announce an information session on the rules for fireworks shows, with no date yet, aimed at the people in charge in each commission. Attendance will not be compulsory, but the JCF insists it matters: it helps prevent accidents when commissions fire their own mascletàs and castles, and avoids fines that have reached €800 in commissions caught without a fire extinguisher or with a traca tied to a lamppost.
With an agenda limited to the minutes of the previous session and the Presidency report, the meeting paves the way for the rest of the year: appeals to the provisional 2027 classification still need to be settled and the window to apply for Fallas permits remains open.
