# First Moors and Christians events in València suspended due to the weather

The **Moros y Cristianos de València 2026** celebrations get under way with changes to their programme. The **Federació Valenciana de Moros i Cristians (FeVaMiC)** has announced the suspension of the **Harquebus and Alardo** events scheduled between **2 and 4 October**, due to adverse weather conditions and the alerts received.

The decision affects some of the first activities planned in the festive calendar and, according to the federation, is taken because it is impossible to guarantee the safety conditions needed to hold the gunpowder events.

## Bad weather forces the suspension of the gunpowder events

FeVaMiC explains that the presence of adverse weather conditions, as well as the receipt of weather alerts of any level that could compromise the running of the activity, has led the board to take this decision.

Harquebus events require specific conditions because of the discharge, handling and distribution of gunpowder, activities that are subject to strict safety regulations.

The suspension specifically affects the Harquebus and Alardo events included in the calendar for 2, 3 and 4 October. The decision was announced before they were due to take place to ease organisation and avoid risks to both participants and the public.

The decision therefore changes the start of the 2026 Moors and Christians celebrations in València, which will have to adapt their first events to the evolution of the weather and the safety conditions required for the use of gunpowder. The bulk of the programme — the Entraeta Festera and the great Entrada on 9 d'Octubre — remains subject to how the weather develops.
